Intendi quello Scenes from a Memory dove il 90% delle parti davvero interessanti sono state composte quando c'era ancora Sherinian nel gruppo?

 

L'ho letto in giro più di una volta, non mi ricordo dove, però è comunque un patto non scritto (o anche scritto forse, non so) tra Kevin e i Dream Theater. Essendo una canzone che riguarda l'intimità di Kevin ha chiesto al gruppo di non suonarla mai, altrimenti non credo proprio che i Dream decidessero di loro pugno di non suonare mai e poi mai una canzone di quel calibro, visto come è anche benvoluta dai fan.

Si, è probabile... cmq nn penso ci siano contrasti tra loro... sognando un po si potrebbe sperare in un concerto speciale per Awake con Kevin che fa la sorpresa... magari

 

Potete dire quando volete che Rudess sia migliore di Kevin tecnicamente,ma a livello emozionale il primato è ampiamente da rovesciare.Kevin rimarrà sempre il poeta dei DT.
Preferisco che Space dye vest non venga "sporcata"da Rudess.
Quest'ultimo non potrà riprodurre la magia di quelle note,per quanto superbravo e sborone sia.

io preferisco kevin moore ma non si può dire che rudess sia da meno...sicuramente era meglio il periodo con moore......

 

Non ho detto TUTTO, ma intendo le parti principali.

Ti ricopio parola per parola quello che scrive Portnoy a proposito della CANZONE Metropolis Pt 2 (Aka Metropolis '96), proposta come Bonus Track nei Falling Into Infinity Demos, della durata di 21 minuti e mezzo.

This is probably "the holy grail" of all unreleased DT recordings in my archives and it has remained very protected... until now!

I figured the FII story would be incomplete without including this recording as this song was indeed supposed to be the centerpiece of the next album.

Since the original Metropolis contained a Pt 1 after its title (thanks John!) we were forever plagued with the question "when will you write Metropolis Pt 2?"

So after getting a few songs out of our system, by mid-1996 we decided to tackle the challenge and finally write the sequel. And in typical DT "more is more" fashion, we decided to make it a 20-minute epic in the vein of "A Change of Seasons"....

The reason this song hasn't seen the light of day until now is that there actually doesn't exist a "proper" demo of it... what you hear on this CD is a "work in progress" live rehearsal recording. (filled with many major claims and all!!) We spent most of May and June writing the song little by little and just as we finished it, we were scheduled to take a break as I had a drum clinic tour booked in Australia... so we layed down this quick (and very sloppy) live rehearsal recordin just for "reference" with the intension to do a "proper demo" when we reconviened after my clinic tour.

Of course, we now know that never happened... as when we returned to work, we instead opted to forge ahead writing something new (figuring the live reference recording was enough to document the arrangement until it was time to make the real record...) So this recording is all that exists!!

Lyrics were never written for this song, so this version will forever remain an instrumental - but the intent was tu ultimately have lyrics (John Petrucci was to write them), but many sections were indeed already planned to be instrumental ala ACOS (we knew the Overture and all the crazy stuff was going to stay instrumental).

Of course, when you listen to this you'll immediately recognise how much of this 1996 version was lifted when we decided to revisit the idea (once again) and expand it into an entire album with Scenes From a Memory. Pretty much the entire Overture 1928 and the entire One Last Time was written during these '96 sessions... as well as the start of Strange Déjà Vu and may riffs and parts that ended up in The Dance of Eternity!

So here it finally is... in all it's primitive, naked glory...

E infatti ascoltando tutta la suite di 21 minuti e mezzo si sente chiaramente che tutta Overture 1928, tutta One Last Time, la prima metà di Strange Deja Vu e i riff portanti di The Dance of Eternity sono già presenti all'interno di questo pezzo, scritto nel 1996 ancora con Derek Sherinian alle tastiere.

 

rudess fa sempre delle cose orrende quando personalizza le canzoni...a riproporre sarà pure un fenomeno, ma a improvvisare sulle canzoni degli altri è davvero pessimo, una cosa inascoltabile. Tutte le canzoni di Moore non andrebbero suonate.

Personalmente trovo gli assoli e gli effetti usati da Rudess spesso invadenti e fuori luogo, spesso freddi e "spaziali" senza un minimo di gusto.
Nelle parti lente in pianoforte se la cava meglio. Sarà bravo ma non mi piace per niente
