Shape of despair

Proprio in queste ultime settimane ho ripreso Angels Of Distress ed Illusion's Play. Grandi album, veramente.

 

I miei due preferiti, quelli che hai citato grandiosi e definitivi per quanto mi riguarda in fatto di "melodic funeral doom".

E qui un estratto dalla recente apparizione al Brutal Assault in Rep. Ceka.

Aggiorniamo un po' questo topic infuocato

Sono usciti da poco i due vinili in tiratura limitata di "Shades of..." e "Angels of Distress"



La notiziona è che tra qualche mese si dovrebbe preparare anche la Cera per ILLUSION'S PLAY!

If suffering is an integral element of great art and indeed life itself, one must wonder what kind of pain has been inflicted upon the minds behind Finland's Shape of Despair for them to paint such disconsolate sonic landscapes. Terms like ”glacial”, ”gargantuan” and ”monstrous” have been used to try and describe Shape of Despair's bleak hymns but alas, words fall short and simply cannot convey the crushing weight, vastness and melancholy of their sorrowful dirge.

Shape of Despair has been a forerunner of what is generally (and quite inanely) classified as ”funeral doom” for the last 15 odd years. After the demise of their death metal band in 1995, Jarno Salomaa and Tomi Ullgren decided to create something different, something darker, something to reflect the abject atmosphere of life in the council estates and the contrasting serenity found in the nature surrounding their area.

In 2000, Spikefarm Records, a burgeoning sidelabel for the well established Spinefarm Records, signed Shape of Despair and released their debut album, ”Shades of...” to rave reviews and general praise from the international doom community. The band was still to deliver it's proverbial coup de grace in the form of 2001's ”Angels of Distress”, an album that cemented their position as THE doom band of the new millennium. ”Illusion's Play”, released in 2004 and the self-titled compilation a year later were their last records for Spikefarm and marked the end of an era for Shape of Despair.

Reinvigorated by the addition of new vocalist Henri Koivula and a freshly inked deal with France's , Season of Mist, Shape of Despair are set to begin anew, delivering yet another monolith of morosity. Swiss philosopher and poet Henri-Frédéric Amiel (1821 - 1881) wrote: “You desire to know the art of living, my friend? It is contained in one phrase: make use of suffering.” And that is exactly what Shape of Despair are doing. Abandon all hope, for a new era of despondency is at hand.

Quindi... nuova label e NUOVO ALBUM, già registrato, in uscita nei primi mesi dell'anno prossimo.

 

Confermati il 23 e 24 gennaio in Russia (Mosca e San Pietroburgo), all'Hellfest e al DBE in Romania il 20/21/22 agosto prossimi.
E questa ultima soprattutto è una notizia INTERESSANTE.
Maledizione...

Il nuovo album ascoltabile in streaming... CAPOLAVORO in arrivo... tanti anni di attesa ma ne è valsa la pena...

Shape Of Despair @ Stereokiller - Metal Band

 

Dopo qualche ascolto ancora non capisco.
A parte qualche momento di grande emozione, le impressioni che mi si sono stampate per ora in testa, nel disorientamento generale, sono:

1 - Pasi...
2 - Natalie, troppo lagnosa.

Spero si dissolva la nebbia e lasci quel loro gelido calore così unico e tipico loro, a far da compagnia in momenti da "Still Motion".

Intanto l'istinto mi ha portato a tornare ai porti sicuri di Illusion's Play e Angels...

 

Dopo altre due ore e passa di ascolti, inizia a fare seriamente breccia.
"The distant dream of life", "Withdrawn", la riedizione di "Written in my scars" (a parte i cori che devo digerire...) e parte del resto crescono esponenzialmente.
Da tenere conto che gli mp3 sono a 160, quindi si potrà apprezzare ancora di più da supporto fisico.
Acquisto obbligato.

ascoltato pure io

la parte centrale dell' album è decisamente la migliore, anche se le rimanenti non sono certo da buttare....forse solo l' inizio di Reaching the innermost è tirato un po' troppo per le lunghe, ma sono piccolezze. Un ottimo ritorno.

 

Fidati... Ne riparliamo tra una o due settimane o mesi e decine di ascolti.
Album bellissimo, dissipati quasi tutti i (molti) dubbi iniziali.
Bellissimo.

 

Concordo, dopo ripetuti ascolti ritengo che sia uno dei migliori album degli ultimi anni non soltanto per il genere funeral-doom ma del metal in generale... acquisto obbligato!
I pezzi migliori imho: Monotony Fields, Withdrawn, The Blank Journey ed anche il rifacimento di Written in my scars... ma tutti gli altri pezzi sono ottimi.

 

Sempre più emozionante e lacerante, album STUPENDO.

... Dopo tanti anni di attesa, io e qualcun altro qua li vedremo sul palco, ad agosto. Non ci credo ancora.. Spero che la resa live sia all'altezza, anche se ho già avuto un paio di conferme in questo senso.
