After shooting to fame in 1986 with the hugely successful single ‘The Final Countdown’, Europe spent the next 10 years touring the world and released two further albums ‘Out of this World’ and ‘Prisoners in Paradise’. After taking a break from the limelight for most of the 1990’s, a break which many fans thought would be the end of the band, Europe got back together for a one-off new year’s eve performance in Stockholm in 1999 and announced their official reunion in 2003 by welcoming back original guitarist and founding member John Norum. Since then, Europe has released two studio albums - ‘Start From The Dark’ (2004) and ‘Secret Society’ (2006).
So it’s been three years since the last studio recording from Europe, in which time some great heavy rock bands have released some stunning albums, including several notable comebacks. The competition has never been more fierce from both new, well-established bands with the competitive stakes raised by the injection into the market of heightened melody, invention and emotion. At the same time more traditional, blues-based heavy rock is on the up. And who said rock ‘n’ roll is dead! Bull-crap.
But when all is said and done Europe is a canny band with a eye on the market and an intimate knowledge of what their fans expect, and boy have the guys delivered with this mutha. Fans will be falling over themselves to buy this album, and rightly so.
The ‘Prelude’ has echoes of Metalica’s S&M but it’s shorter, just as sweet and before you know it title bass-driven title track ‘Last Look At Eden’ is pile-driving out of the speakers. The orchestra hangs around to add heart-pounding drama to a song with melody-to-burn, swinging guitar riffs, powerful bass rhythm and Tempest on top vocal form. As a single this will fly given the airplay it deserves. ‘Gonna Get Ready’ is a diving and ducking blues rocker with slow and thoughtful vocal interludes punctuating the heavy blues-rock barrage. A great song, beautifully delivered and produced. The blues-rock vibe continues with the more contemplative ‘Catch That Plane’ which is notable for its lyrical guitar passages and subtle backing vocals. Tempest gives another expressive and explosive vocal performance while the song has the most wonderful outro passage.
‘New Love In Town’ is a startling, slow-moving rock ballad with piano notes cleverly and tellingly used to add sonic diversity to this emotional rollercoaster. The solo guitar riff is magical and I would venture to add that Tempest has never sounded better… ‘The Beast’ is a bold and brash rocker that rushes along as F1 pace - this is one song that I can’t wait to see performed live. ‘Mojita Girl’ is a mid-paced, trad, jagged beast of a song with deviously clever changes of pace that slow things almost to a crawl with Clapton style riffs the icing on this multi-layered cake.
‘No Stone Unturned’ opens in ghostly fashion culminating in the relentless hum of a monotone guitar riff. The song then opens out in truly epic style to reveal a tad more adventure and ambition. It’s one of the albums standout tracks and another potential single that could bombard the charts - it is the full-monty and a bit special. ‘Only Young Once’ takes a turn back down into calmer waters adding yet more (very welcome) sonic diversity. ‘U Devil U’ performs a similar trick but with bass rhythm taking a leading role alongside some twisting guitar riffs and well-judged orchestral interventions. It’s another winner.
‘Run With The Angels’ is a darker, more moody affair which opens with a deathly bass guitar riff then opens out with epic choruses and more of those soaring guitar riffs. Final track ‘In My Time’ is a slow moving, reflective tune which again reminds of Clapton at his emo best. This is a gorgeous bluesy ballad and the perfect romantic close to one of the year’s best rock albums (if not the best). Europe is back with a vengeance, and better than ever. The gauntlet has been well and truly thrown…

In Svezia esce il 9, e ci saranno 3 edizioni differenti....versione con 12 pezzi/versione con 12 pezzi piu' 2 songs live e versione 12 pezzi autografata piu' vinile rosso e 2 songs live....
ognuna avra' un colore diverso.
Ma invece de fa ste stronzate perche' i soldi non li sprecano in un po' di promozione?

Ho letto che qualcuno dice che l'album sara' uguale ai precedenti...

 

grandissima la ballad!

 

il problema è che siamo rimasti in pochi a comprarci ancora i dischi, quindi la promozione non è più essenziale come una volta.

 

Bellissime tutte e due emozione pura non vedo l'ora che esca Europe così non vale, mi fai aumentare la voglia di averlo:grin:

e io nn ho soldi x comprarlo..(gegio,se spendi 120 euro in fuemtti cme oggi..)
