Non intendevo tipicizzare in senso negativo coloro che ascoltano progressive, anch'io lo ascolto. Il problema secondo me si pone quando il disco degli Anacrusis viene inquadrato in un contesto di thrash tecnico, perché questo fatto potrebbe dare adito ad equivoci, creare aspettative di un certo tipo destinate a rimanere deluse. Il gruppo all'esordio suona bene, mostra un talento compositivo a mio parere sopra la norma, ma non si segnala per virtuosismi particolari, variazioni ritmiche intricate o altre soluzioni tipiche del thrash tecnico. Questo potrebbe indurre alcune persone (non mi riferisco a te) a giudicare con sufficienza un disco che non ha nell'esuberanza tecnica il suo punto di forza (pur rimanendo valido il concetto che non ci troviamo di fronte a strumentisti mediocri, anzi).

Da un punto di vista "progressivo", ma forse qui il mio punto di vista è limitato, mi sembra che il gruppo, in questo disco, privilegi la forma-canzone rispetto ad una struttura più fluida, a soluzioni musicali di rottura rispetto al canone del genere. La personalità del gruppo è evidente, ma gli elementi che la determinano, anche se atipici (il modo di cantare di Nardi, oppure l'accordatura delle chitarre, che per l'epoca risulta ribassata rispetto alla norma) si inseriscono in un contesto musicale tipico, non danno luogo a stravolgimenti tali da giustificare un loro inserimento in un contesto progressive.

 

Non so se posso divulgare.. Sta lavorando su più fronti. So poco anche io.

 

Sono d'accordo su tutto.
Sostanzialmente è quello che intendevo io parlando di Coroner (soprattutto) e gli Anacrusis (che nella frase ci sono un po' finiti di mezzo) ma ho scritto in modo sbrigativo e anche un po' impreciso anche perché non è che possa fare poemi.
Non sono dischi che possono essere considerati progressive, ma che presentano degli elementi che li legano al prog e che non a caso svilupperanno in seguito di fatto facendo prog.
Allora, progressive devi intenderlo un po' come l'epic: è anzitutto un concetto e un modo di approcciare alla musica "popolare" rock e metal che si pone come deviazione da determinati cliché, norme, di un determinato genere, una sperimentazione - che se deborda del tutto diventa "rock sperimentale o d'avanguardia" - che porta a "deragliare dai cardini" (non mi addentro nello specifico, perché se no non la si finisce più).
Ora, con il thrash soprattutto questo è avvenuto in modo "technical" (un termine che non mi piace affatto, perché genera spesso equivoci), cioè con la ricerca di una destrutturazione ritmica e/o maggiore complessità tecnica derivata da certa fusion. Gli Anacrusis sono un po' a parte in questo, sicuramente non è un gruppo "technical" giusto un album può essere considerato tale ma puntano ad altre cose.
Allora, dato che ci sono gruppi che dalla norma thrash deviano un po' dallo standard con una ricerca tecnica elevata e/o con alcune influenze prog, ma restano thrash "normale" io spesso uso il termine technical anche anche per indicare quelle band o quei dischi (ad esempio, Megadeth, Annihilator, Dark Angel, Heathen, primi Coroner ecc) e questo spesso genera abbastanza confusione. In questo caso era rivolto soprattutto a Punishment for Decadence, ma non è che potevo scrivere "poi c'è Suffering Hour che è un thrash particolare, originale quindi che lo si può legare al prog - soprattutto in vista di quanto faranno - ma che non ancora può considerarsi tale" cioè potevo pure, ma volevo essere sintetico e sbrigativo.

 

Anch'io sono d'accordo con la tua visione, la ritengo corretta, anche se personalmente tendo ad utilizzare il meno possibile il termine progressive perché appunto può generare fraintendimenti; però capisco l'utilità di definire in qualche modo il processo di sperimentazione che porta ad evolvere ed ampliare lo spettro sonoro di un determinato genere. Oltre al fatto che amo il processo creativo musicale che porta a concretizzare l'Idea al di là del genere, magari servendosi di linguaggi musicali non ortodossi o non in linea con il genere di appartenenza. Ti posso fare l'esempio di Last Entertainment e Host dei Coroner; amo in particolare il thrash con sfumature dark/gothic, forse è per questo che ho apprezzato da subito il primo album degli Anacrusis.

Cerco di passarci su, ma tutte le volte devo spiegare la stessa storia... Se qualcosa manca è perché non è rientrato per qualche ragione nei dati presi inizialmente, senza morire di corona virus potete dire la vostra e farmi notare quello che manca e quello che eccede...
Che poi tra l'altro dei gruppi citati da te ho solo sentito nominare Mr. Big, great white, msg, white lion, atheist. Poi bisogna vedere se i relativi dischi valgono il nome del gruppo o il confronto con gli altri dischi dell'annata.
Io questo non lo so, è per questo che raccolgo le vostre opinioni di cui mi fido molto e traggo una specie di risultato. Può darsi che in 4 mi citate i law & order (preferisco senza traccia) e nessuno i Sepultura, ma questi sono i rischi di questo topico.

 

La mia era solo incredulità...

Ma proprio il tuo lavoro mi evidenzia sempre di più la limitatezza del "voto" popolare...
Capisco che alcuni dischi sia molto più famosi o da "metallaro", ma, ad esempio, vedere quello degli LA Guns e non i Vain o i Law & Order, o i Great White, mi lacia perplesso... tutto qui...
Proprio perchè personalmente cerco proprio di riportare il tutto ad un valore "assoluto" diciamo...

Eccomi, in leggerissimo ritardo.
Come sempre mi limito agli album già presenti, a malincuore non aggiungo altro perché lo scopo (anche se tu fingi che non sia vero) è sfoltire.
È anche l'unico atteggiamento che possa dare un senso al topic, se vogliamo, nonché un buon viatico contro le lungaggini: se ogni volta dovessi richiamare alla mente tutti i grandi album che sono usciti in un dato anno, e che per un motivo o per l'altro ho incrociato nel corso della vita, impiegherei un'altra vita a postarle.

Forse il difetto del mio lavoro sta proprio nel non aver preso in considerazione il voto popolare, ma non avrei mai finito... Diciamo che se questo lavoro l'avesse affrontato qualcuno di più esperto sicuramente avrebbe incluso alcuni dischi che io ho eliminato secondo le regole che mi ero dato..

Edit 26/02 ho aggiunto i Soundgarden, che avevo dimenticato, ma a memoria (scarsa)
mi sono ricordato che si fosse detto che Dust sul grunge fosse alquanto ferrato, per cui ho spostato
il "rosso" dai Nirvana ai Savatage... in effetti l'uso del pianoforte su quell'album, fu una discreta
novità in ambito metal in quel periodo...
