Non so se avete visto TV7 di lunedì sera su RAIUNO, ma nel servizio c'erano diversi pezzi tratti da Train Of Thought dei nostri beneamati newyorkesi...

E' più di un mese che nessuno insulta i Dream Theater su questo topic facendolo sprofondare a fondo pagina!! Ragazzi che fine ha fatto l'odio per i 5 di New York? Stiamo invecchiando o ci siamo semplicemnte rotti? o addirittura si cerca di non considerarli nemmeno in modo da farli cadere nel dimenticatoio?

Scherzi a parte "surfando" on the web ho trovato una cosetta interessante scritta da Portnoy...anzi è una cosa che mezzo avevo in mente..tipo proporre un sondaggio dal titolo "Perchè odi i Dream Theater" ma avevo paura dei commenti stupidi (come il sondaggio stesso probabilmente, o forse come tutti i sondaggi) e temevo che i mods mi avrebbero considerato alla stregua di un flamers).

Bando alle ciance e scusate l'eccessiva lunghezza ma merita(se qualcuno avesse problemi con l'inglese magari facciamo un lavoro di gruppo e lo traduciamo):

Guide to becoming a TRUE DREAM THEATER FAN in 50 easy steps

Step 1: Discover the New York Progressive Metal band Dream Theater through any means

Step 2: Go buy all of their LPs except for "When Dream And Day Unite" because you heard it has a different singer and that frightens you

Step 3: Post on a message board about how much you love Dream Theater

Step 4: Get called a newb because you don't have "A Change of Seasons"

Step 5: Get "A Change of Seasons"

Step 6: Complain that "A Change of Seasons" has live cover songs on it, reasoning that they should have either put more DT songs on it, or just the one song. (Becuase everyone knows nothing is better than something you don't care for!)

Step 7: Pick A favorite album. It can't be "Train of Thought" becuase you so many people on your message board dislike it and you don't want to be called a fag. It can't be "Falling Into Infinity" for the same reason. It can't be "Awake" becuase it has a few songs that people hate with a passion. It can't be "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" becuase you probably haven't listened to it yet anyway. it can't be "Octavarium" becuase it's new and everyone is complaining about the new album for being different. It can't be "Scenes From A Memory" becuase too many people like it and you want to be different. Get confused.

Step 8: Proclaim "Images and Words" as your favorite album.

Step 9: Correct yourself, asserting that it is not merely your favorite, but the greatest album ever written.

Step 10: Buy "When Dream And Day Unite" and hate it.

Step 11: Pick a member of the band to dislike for no apparent reason and bash them at every opportunity. Pick a member of another band that plays the same instrument (or sings) and always say how much better they are.

Step 12: Still insist that Dream Theater are your favorite band.

Step 13: Proclaim that DT "hasn't been the same" since your favorite album, which is "Images and Words"

Step 14: Have someone point out to you that "Images and Words" was their second album and you hate the first album. This person will claim you only like one album.

Step 15: Call them a fag. You are now elite.

Step 16: Realize that you may be elite but you're still a pansy becuase you haven't seen Dream Theater live. Buy tickets.

Step 17: Your mom won't let you go alone. Whine about that on the message board.

Step 18: Take up the offer of a kind fellow fan who offers you a ride. Prepare to complain afterwards about the person in every way possible.

Step 19: Arrive at the show and get blown away by an amazing performance.

Step 20: Run home and post the setlist. It wasn't the exact list of songs that you wanted but it was amazing!

Step 21: The next day, come to your senses and realize that your seats sucked, the sound quality in the venue sucked, and the band cheaped you out by not playing your favorite songs. Complain.

Step 22: Buy all of Dream Theater's live albums.

Step 23: Complain about every difference between live and studio versions of the songs. Complain about the choice of songs.

Step 24: Find out about the YtseJamRecords releases. Want them very badly.

Step 25: Your mom won't lend you her credit card to buy them. Complain.

Step 26: Download them, and defend your "right" to do so by saying you couldn't get them otherwise, and that it's obvious to anyone with half a brain that you are entitled to have them.

Step 27: Complain about the YtseJamRecords releases that you got for free.

Step 28: Find out about the DTIFC releases. Want them VERY badly.

Step 29: Find out that they are no longer for sale, almost impossible to download and way too expensive on ebay.

Step 30: Complain a lot.

Step 31: See the band live again. You have better seats this time and the sound quality is much better. Complain about the people around you, the three notes your least favorite member messed up and the fact that they mostly played songs supporting their new album, which you hate.

Step 32: Go to the second night of shows in your city and complain that the band covered an album by another band that you don't like.

Step 33: Find a song that you hate particuarly. This can be for any reason, but most likely it's for no reason at all. This works especially if it's a song you used to like. Take every opportunity to bash on this song, bringing your hatred of it into every discussion, including ones that are unrelated.

Step 34: Decide that half the songs on your favorite album are far too beloved by most fans and declare them to be overrated.

Step 35: Look into DT's sideprojects. Proclaim half of them far superior to Dream Theater and the other half unlistenable.

Step 36: Decide that Kevin Moore was the best thing to happen to the band and that Derek was a hack and Jordan is pretentious. Say this at every opportunity.

Step 37: Buy all of the Kevin Moore and Chroma Key albums.

Step 38: Listen to them all the time. Dress like a goth and hang out in front of hot topic. Also buy a bunch of Pain of Salvation albums.

Step 39: Buy "Live at the Marquee" on ebay and declare it their best live album, at the same time complaining that it's far too short.

Step 40: Find out that "Live at the Marquee" had a lot of vocals overdubs. Declare that James LaBrie is a lousy singer.

Step 41: Pick a band as your second favorite. Good choices are Pain of Salvation, The Mars Volta or Coheed and Cambria. Decide that you love this band, despite their horridness. Proclaim at every opportunity paralells between their music and Dream Theaters, and always show DT in a negative light compared to your second favorite band.

Step 42: Go see another DT show. Instead of complaining about it on message boards this time, just reply to the other people that are complaining. Say things like "yeah, really!" and "yah" and "lol! so true!"

Step 43: Pick a very obscure band that not even the nerdiest of progophiles knows of. Proclaim them to be better than DT (they must not have more than one album out)

Step 44: Decide that Jordan Rudess is the antichrist fag that uses sheet music and complain about any change he makes to older DT songs.

Step 45: Complain when he doesn't change older DT songs, stating that he's just copying Kevin.

Step 46: Forget Derek Sherinian ever existed.

Step 47: Decide that John Petrucci is overrated.

Step 48: Decide that "Images and Words" is overrated after all

Step 49: Proclaim that Mike Portnoy is a controlling egomanical asshole and that John Myung is some kind of Vietnamese retard who can't speak english (ignore anyone who corrects you)

Step 50: Congratulations. You now hate every DT album and song, all of their members and their live shows. You are now a TRUE Dream Theater fan.

Bonus Step: Proclaim that anybody who likes anybody about Dream Theater or gets excited about them in any way or shows any form of enthusiasm related to the band is a faggy fanboy who would like anything even if it was just Jordan Rudess flapping his nutsack against a 25 dollar casio keyboard. People must bow down to you beucase you are a true fan.

L'ho letto tutto il prontuario di come diventare fan dei dream theater ...io sono arrivato abbastanza presto ad odiare i dream theter...piu ke altro images and word di cui considero la produzione alquanto pessima.

 

certo che rianimare un topic dopo così tanto tempo e ricominciare con gli insulti nn è la cosa migliore del mondo...
penso che si può condividere o nn condividere le scelte dei 5 newyorkesi e si può apprezzare o nn apprezzare la musica da loro proposta ma credo che nn sia giusto insultarli gratuitamente perchè sono antipatici,perchè sono freddi,perchè octavarium è commerciale,perchè portnoy si è ingrassato e porta gli occhiali e altre BOIATE del genere...
secondo me è giusto esprimere la propria opinione riguardo a un concerto, a un album ecc. ma insultarli così senza motivo...

 

produzione pessima? tieni conto ke era il 92, quindi appena usciti dagli 80.... + o - tutti i dischi di quel periodo suonano in quel modo.....

e poi nn è giusto insultare così, x partito preso.... x esempio io odio i metallica degli ultimi 15 anni, ma nn vado nel loro topic a insultare..... i dream theater possono pure nn piacervi..... x carità..... ognuno ha la sua opinione.... ma nn insultate e parlate d cose tecnike.....

 

Era meglio lasciarlo nel dimenticatoio questo topic... immaginavo che si sarebbe tornati a parlare di frivolezze.

è difficile farli finire nel dimenticatoio...qui a roma stanno diventando di gran moda...dovunque vada sembra che ogni singola persona che prenda in mano uno strumento debba saper fare qualche pezzo dei Dream per sentirsi bravo...e a scuola fanno i dream...all'autogestione i dream...non se ne può più...
