Un po' strano come video, mi ha dato l'impressione di essere amatoriale. Comunque era impossibile battere l'originale.

Nuovo post sul canale youtube della Nuclear Blast. Grutle sta girando un video in Islanda e parlano di un ritorno in studio.

First of all, we’d like to sincerely thank you for the warm reception of our latest publications about our upcoming new album ‘Utgard’! We understand that our recent communication also raised some questions and calls for transparent explanations. Let us reassure you that all of us are fine and in good health!

Due to the current situation, we took the decision together with our label Nuclear Blast to postpone the release of ‘Utgard’ to the fall. Therefore, as you can imagine, the whole schedule had to be adjusted quickly! We understand that seeing a video teaser followed by nothing has been confusing. As of today, we can announce that our first single and video will be released on May 22nd, and we can’t wait to share this new music with you all! We are sure you understand that this is for the best.

In the meantime, we’d like to tell you a little more about the ‘Utgard’ cover artwork! This is the 10th consecutive album cover artwork done by Truls Espedal - and like the album itself it is definitely on the wavelength of the long-distance pulse from the Enslaved generator. It is a piece of art that mirrors a massive concept and a band that is also more lyrically and philosophically inspired than ever before. That Truls is a master of his art is established a long time ago, but he has truly outdone himself on this interpretation of our Utgard. Just looking at how the colors and techniques are used to create the depth and grandiosity of the horizon. The perfect travelling companion into these uncharted territories.

Una recensione praticamente priva di contenuto. Non c'è mezzo accenno alla musica (eccetto che le songs sono "composte con varietà e suonate con tecnica sopraffina"), non c'è un riferimento al cambio di batterista, alle differenze stilistiche coi predecessori, niente. E io che pensavo che le moderne webzine avessero abbassato il livello qualitativo

Scaletta impressionante

 

Gran bel concerto davvero, anche la scaletta incentrata sul periodo "di mezzo" mi ha sorpreso. Partire subito con Ethica Odini è un colpo al cuore comunque

 

In questo periodo di quarantena loro sono una delle band che sto pian piano recuperando. Dopo Isa lì ho praticamente persi e nel frattempo sono usciti duemila album in buona parte me li sono ascoltati..mi mancano gli ultimi due. Per ora la mia preferenza va ad Axioma ethica odini. Un disco pazzesco. Già solo le prime due canzoni basterebbero per definirlo un capolavoro.

 

*** UTGARD - A JOURNEY TO THE OUTER LIMITS ***

As announced earlier, our upcoming album ‘Utgard’ will be released in fall 2020 via Nuclear Blast, and we would like to take a moment to walk you through the album’s essence and tracklist.

“Utgard” bears countless meanings to us; an image, metaphor, an esoteric “location”, a word on its own etc – on different levels and layers. From Norse mythology we know it as a landscape were the giants roam; where the gods of Asgard have no control; dangerous, chaotic, uncontrollable and where madness, creativeness, humor and chaos dwells.

The album is a journey into and through Utgard. It is a place of unification of that which is above and that which lies below. It is not about avoiding fear of the pitch-black darkness (it will keep on growing until the next confrontation), but to go into the darkness itself. This is the rebirth of the individual. In a world that has become so obsessed with the false lights of greed, jealousy and egotism this is a necessary journey.

Utgard is not a fairytale, it is a vital part of both your mind and your surroundings, and it has been since the dawn of mankind. Acknowledging that this realm exists and is a vital part of the self, has inspired us deeply since the early days of our lives. Enjoy our journey to the outer limits.

Da qualche giorno sto riascoltando tutta la loro discografia: che bellezza.

Una capitolo "minore" che a mio avviso merita di essere riconsiderato è Below The Lghts, il primo con Ice Dale alla chitarra, innesto fondamentale per la band, inoltre il primo album con suoni più puliti e orientati alla futura dimensione prog (seppure un suono di batteria anomalo).

Bellissima la melodia portante di As Fire Swept Clean the Earth, così nostalgica, gli intrecci di chitarra in The Dead Stare, il lato più folk di Havenless... insomma gli Enslaved, quelli già maturi in grado di fondere tradizione e sperimentazione, già prima del tanto celebrato Isa.

Voi come lo considerate?

 

Il concerto in streaming è stato davvero emozionante. In quella scaletta mancava solo Essence, tra le mie preferite del periodo che va da Below ad Axioma.

Concordo sul fatto che Below the Lights è il primo album dove si intravedono i segni dell'evoluzione progressive ma il salto di qualità secondo me avviene nel successivo Isa. Bjornson comincia ad avere le idee più chiare nel songwriting e l'innesto di Larsen alle tastiere fornisce più varietà sonora ma soprattutto permette di dare inizio all'alternanza tra il suo cantato pulito e lo scream di Kjellson, per me aspetto fondamentale della loro proposta. La formazione di Isa (arriva anche Bekkenvold alla batteria) sarà quella che permarrà sino a In Times quindi può forse considerarsi quella "storica".

Non vedo l'ora di poter ascoltare Utgard.

 

Venerdì esce i primo singolo, Homebound.
Certo è un po' precoce se manterranno l'uscita dell'album a questo autunno.
