Geranios in una recente intervista (parlando delle prove del tour): "The band comes in around noon and run through the new material that is ready. Samples have to be worked out and assigned to be played by one of the three. This is done by logistics, quantum physics, and the tossing of the I Ching. After about 10 days the we are running through the first half of the the show."

Spoiler su The Garden qui sotto:

Someone previously mentioned Available Light as a comparison. I guess that's not a horrible place to start and from there I'd say The Garden is Available Light meets Broadway. But there's really no way to accurately describe it in the context of Rush's catalog. It simply doesn't sound like anything Rush has ever done before. It does sound like it could fit as a part of a Broadway show - perhaps its the strings and the piano. But overally it's just a very pretty and really good melodic song with hooks and emotion. "The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect / so hard to earn, so easily burned..."

Ecco altre delle cose che ha scritto... i post sono in ordine di pubblicazione, i primi sono antecedenti all'uscita di Headlong flight (quindi provano che lo ha sentito in anteprima).

OK...probably unfair to toss that out there without saying a little more even if I was just trying to correct misinformation. I'll say that Headlong Flight is the song that contains the lyrics that Neil wrote about in his last blog entry. It also reminds me a lot of Caravan - for better and for worse. It's not "the 80's in a blender" (the guy who posted that is full of crapola) and it's not By-Tor or Bastille Day. It totally rocks musically and it's really awkward vocally and it lacks hooks and a chorus in the same way that Caravan does but it has a lot more balls than most of the stuff from the last bunch of years does. If only Neil still wrote songs instead of lyrical passages that Geddy has to figure out how to turn into songs...

    1. Everyone has their own opinions and interpretations of what they hear.
    2. Headlong Flight is part of the Clockwork Angels story.
    3. Don't forget - the people posting about it have generally been radio or industry people (in coordination with a PR campaign), not the diehards who know the band inside and out and likely have different opinions.
    4. I'd venture to say that the poster who mentioned hearing various songs and that it sounds like the 80s and whatever else didn't actually hear it.
    5. If the lines I mentioned from Neil's post are in the song, then you know I've heard it. Ask him to quote a line.
    6. I wouldn't say this is S&A Part 2 by any means. It rocks musically and has a lot more balls to it. It's just that, to me, it still seems like Neil now writes blog entries and novels that are sung as songs rather than songs that rhyme and have hooks and choruses etc. In that sense it reminds me of Caravan a lot. You all might feel differently.

Blown away is a tough standard but I can say this is clearly the best Rush album I've heard in 20 years - and that's even if the songs I haven't heard absolutely suck. It's fresh, it's inspired, it's varied, it's deep and it's really good. This is coming from someone who hasn't been particularly impressed by the output from the band for the past 2 decades. I didn't think they had this type of record in them

I've heard most of the album and can confidently say that Clockwork Angels is significantly better than S&A. There's only 1 song I don't particularly like so far. Whether they suit your personal taste or not, the quality to these songs is just way way better than the last couple of albums. These songs are confidently made and don't sound forced at all liked much of the recent material in my opinion. Also, as heavy as the songs that have been released are, many of the remainder are quite the opposite. The album has a very diverse collection of songs. I'll also say that Headlong Flight is not one of the songs in my regular rotation either - but I'm always partial to more melodic and hook-y songs.

Most of the remaining songs sound very different from the three songs that have been released to date. There's a much more melodic side to the album that hasn't been seen yet.

The best I can describe the melodic songs is to say that if you took The Color of Right, How It Is, Out of the Cradle, Faithless & Bravest Face, figured out where they were trying to go but couldn't quite get to and advanced it about 9 stages you'd have what we have on this album. The songs are much richer and not wimpy. They don't sound like old school Rush - they sound very much like modern Rush but simply having gotten where they were trying to go - if that makes any sense.

What did I see / Fool that I was / Oh a goddess with wings on her heels

Halo Effect is not an instrumental. It's short and melodic.

"The Garden" appears to be part of the concept.
One of the lines is "The watchmaker keeps to his schemes. The hours tick away, they tick away..."

The melodic songs are genuinely GOOD. They're just modern sounding, not throwbacks. The Garden is one of the best and most inspired pieces of music I've heard from the band in many years. It's very much a fitting album closer and sounds totally like the final chapter in a concept story. It has a theatrical feel. Overall this is a very strong album with a lot of variety - much much much stronger than the past couple. Whether you love it or not, it's really quality and the songs have a lot of depth.

There is definitely nothing at all bluesy about The Garden.

As far as bluesy, perhaps he's referring to Clockwork Angels (the song)? There's a short section toward the end that sounds a bit bluesy with megaphone-like vocals in the background.

Dal sito di Dave Ling, giornalista di Classic Rock:
During the afternoon I attended the first of three media playbacks for Rush’s hotly anticipated new album. And you know what? ‘Clockwork Angels’ might just be the Canadian band’s best and hardest-rocking record since the celebrated ‘Moving Pictures’, performed in its entirety on their last tour but recorded as long ago as 1981. I particularly liked a song called ‘The Anarchist’ which begins with the type of brutal guitar motif not heard since ‘Working Man’ back in the mid-’70s. ‘Clockwork…’ is not consistently heavy, mind, though to these ears it’s their most consistent set of choons in aeons.
