e sapendo che di certo non parlate l'israeliano, vi ho tradotto il testo di mio pugno e addirittura in inglese per aumentare la difficoltà, in italiano era troppo banale

Ulver – “Bergtatt”
“Bergtatt” has always been a sort of foundation for our music. The influence is most apparent on our debut album, but we’ve always built off this foundation by incorporating other influences from a variety of different places. Sixteen years later “Bergtatt” is still a meeting point for all of us.

Fields of the Nephilim – “The Nephilim”
Fields were a perfect band. From the image, to the live show, to the music—everything was perfect. Who would have thought a combination of Spaghetti Western style, the occult, and a whole lot of fog would be so incredible. Combine that image with some of the best clean tone guitar you can imagine and Carl McCoy’s unmistakable vocals and you have a purely cinematic and musical group.

In the Woods… “HEart of the Ages”
This record was one of the first to really show the possibilities offered by extreme metal. Even on this debut album there were elements of non-metal influences like Pink Floyd and folk music. The clean vocals were also very different for this genre. Overall, In The Woods… have always been a big inspiration to us as songwriters.

Sand – The Dynamic Curve
This strange and obscure album was accidently discovered by John. He thought it was the German kraut-rock band, but it turned out to be this breathtaking psychedelic and minimal acoustic album with electronics and synthesizers. There was really no information provided in the booklet which made it even more strange and appealing to us. We listened to it a lot during “The Mantle” sessions.

Neil Young – “Dead Man” Soundtrack
Both the Jim Jarmusch film “Dead Man” and its soundtrack were inspiring to us. The rawness and sustain of Young’s solo guitar placed over stark black and white footage of the wild western American landscape really resonated with us as a Pacific Northwest band. We recently listened to this album in the van on the way back from playing our last show in San Francisco. We were driving at night through Oregon and there wasn’t a more perfect opportunity for listening to this record.

Carcass – “Symphonies of Sickness”
You probably can’t hear Carcass in our music. However, we all grew up on death metal and Carcass is a band we all agree on. This album is particularly special because Carcass had developed an eerie sense of melody and harmony that wasn’t present on their debut. But, they were still brutal. This album is a classic and one we still listen to all the time.

Bathory – “Hammerheart”
Another album we listened to a lot during “The Mantle” sessions. What we appreciate about Bathory’s so-called “Viking” period is the scope of Quorthon’s vision. The albums of this time, and this one in particular, really defined “epic” for us. The album as a whole work in and of itself, rather than a collection of songs, was important for this period and this is an idea we maintain today.

Swans – “White Light from the Mouth of Infinity”
“Sound mass”—that’s how one would describe this record. At times it wasn’t about notes or melody, but rather the colossal bludgeoning of pure sound. This album had the abrasiveness of the early Swans, but also a stronger sense of atmosphere that appealed to us.

Rush – “Presto”
Rush basically taught John how to write songs. As the primary arranger of our songs, Rush is his #1 influence when it comes to putting creative riffs together in an interesting and engaging arrangement. They are a band who always pushed the envelope in songwriting and have remained relevant through 3 decades of musical evolution. Every time we think we have created something special, Rush always reminds us that it can be better.

Xysma – “First & Magical”
Although you can’t hear Xysma in our sound, this is another gem of a record we all love. Grind-Rock was a Finnish invention and Xysma did it the best. They could go from an uptempo “rock” riff to a blast beat then right to a catchy chorus in one song. Another incredibly rare and underappreciated album and band.

Bergtatt Non poteva essere altrimenti...è forse l'influenza che balza più all'orecchio quando li si ascolta, specialmente nei primi due album.

Mi stupisce che dei Rush citino Presto..che è forse l'album che ha riscosso meno entusiasmo tra chi li ascolta!

E poi in the woods, carcass e swans...tanta roba insomma

Figurati che molto probabilmente ci saranno anche miei amici dall'inghilterra e dagli USA e forse da altri paesi esteri per questa data... sarà qualcosa di indimenticabile.
