Andrew 'Mac' McDermott, the former lead singer of U.K. progressive metallers THRESHOLD, reportedly passed away in England yesterday (Wednesday, August 3).

Threshold guitarist Karl Groom commented on his passing: "Mac played a large part in the story of Threshold and appeared on 5 studio albums. He also sang on numerous fan club releases and live albums. Although I have not seen him since 2007 for the last video shoot in Leipzig, he still remains in our minds and there is a big sense of loss. I have spoken to and seen ex members of the band over the last two days who are all very saddened by this turn of events. We remember Mac as being so vibrant and full of life, so find this news is hard to accept."

McDermott had "serious health problems" in the months leading up to his death, according to a June 2011 statement from the German melodic metal band Powerworld, with whom he recorded the 2010 album Human Parasite.

McDermott performed in clubs in England and tried to establish a band there in his early years before he moved to Germany to join the band Sargant Fury. After three albums, the band dissolved and in 1998 McDermott joined Threshold as lead singer until his departure from the band in 2007.

Threshold keyboard player Richard West echoed the sentiments of numerous fans who left messages of condolence on Threshold's Facebook site. "Mac had such a big personality and one of the world's greatest rock voices, it's so very sad that we lost him so young. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones".

Quasi tre anni fa Mike Baker degli Shadow Gallery, ora Mac... entrambi a 45 anni! Che coincidenza!

Spero che sia solo una coincidenza e che non sia una dannazione come quella dei 27 anni che colpisce le rockstar.

Preferisco Mac ma entrambe le voci meritano il massimo rispetto!

la parte centrale è davvero da brivido!

 

Io li sto ascoltando... sono abbastanza melodici x essere prog metal... ma quale è l'album meno pesante e con + tastiere?

 

Beh se mi chiedi questo ti suggerirei il primo, Wounded Land, che ha ancora influenze heavy più classiche e le tastiere in stile più evidentemente AOR.

 

... dove però il cantante non era Mac, se stai cercando qualcosa di suo. Tieni conto che la band stessa non ha mai amato l'etichetta di 'progressive metal'...

Infatti secondo me le ritmiche sono per il 60% hard rock...il 15 % neoprog e 25% metal e loro si sono adaguati un pò
Il cantante non mi interessa + di tanto....l'importante che non abbia la voce tipicamente metal....alla Dream Theater

 

Caspita. Mac è un cantante favoloso. Tristissima notizia...andarsene così presto...RIP. Rispolvero con piacere Dead reckoning.

speriamo che segni una svolta decisiva nel sound della band che per quanto ottimo è quasi sempre rimasto lo stesso.

 

Mah... opinione che non condivido in realtà- il sound della band mi sembra abbia subito variazioni ad ogni release, sebbene a volte piccole, e sebbene il loro marchio di fabbrica sia sempre molto riconoscibile
